Who We Are
Founded in November 2000 under the direction of Jaylene Willhite, the Cheyenne Youth Symphony is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing musical opportunities for students in grades 3 through 9. The symphony helps students enhance both their technical skills and musical talents.
The Cheyenne Youth Symphony is divided into three performing groups: a Preparatory Orchestra for 3rd and 4th graders, the Prelude Symphony for emerging students, and the Cadenza Symphony for advanced students. Students are placed in groups based on their experience and skill level, ensuring each member receives the appropriate challenges and support. All symphonies offer performance opportunities throughout the year.
Young string musicians have the opportunity to showcase their skills in a variety of settings. The Cheyenne Youth Symphony hosts four scheduled concerts annually, in addition to various performances throughout the community. Members of the symphony may also opt into a summer program and perform in Cheyenne Frontier Days parades.
CYS is growing! Fall of 2026 we plan to add a Preparatory Orchestra for 3rd and 4th grade students. Check back for more information.
